As the days get longer and the flowers begin to bloom, we at Pretty Heart Inc. wanted to take a moment to share some exciting updates on the initiatives we've been
passionately pursuing in the first few months of this year.
Showering Oakland with Compassion: Our Shower Program Initiative.
We are thrilled to announce a significant project in the works: bringing a much-needed shower program to Oakland! Recognizing the importance of hygiene for health, well-being, and dignity, we have been diligently working to establish this program at the DeFremery Pool site in Oakland. Our efforts have included positive initial contact with the City of Oakland, engaging with city council members, and connecting with the vital Oak Center Neighborhood Association. We are preparing to present our shower program proposal to the Oak Center Neighborhood Association on May 5th, 2025. Gaining their support is a crucial step, and we are hopeful that they will see the positive impact this program will have on our community members. We also have a meeting scheduled with Councilmember Carroll Fife on May 12, 2025, to discuss this initiative.
Heart to Help Expands to Hayward!
We are delighted to announce the expansion of our Heart to Help Program to the city of Hayward! Through a wonderful new partnership with the Downtown Streets Team, we will be providing a nourishing lunch once a month to support their weekly success meetings.
The Downtown Streets Team (DST) is a volunteer-based program that empowers men and women experiencing homelessness to rebuild their lives. DST provides a supportive community, structured volunteer opportunities, and connections to resources. Team members work together to beautify their city, contributing to its improvement while gaining valuable skills and experience. Their weekly success meetings offer a platform for team members to share their progress, receive encouragement, and access essential services. Our Heart to Help Program will provide a nourishing lunch to support these meetings, fostering a sense of community and care as individuals work towards stability and self-sufficiency. We are currently seeking sponsorship support from the local Lucky Store to help support this initiative.
We are excited about this collaboration and the positive impact we can make together.
Ongoing Support for Oakland Residents
Our commitment to the residents of Oakland remains steadfast. We continue our monthly distributions of essential items, including warm meals, much-needed toiletries, and gently used clothing. These efforts provide vital support to individuals facing hardship in our community. We are seeking volunteers to assist with these distributions. Here are the tentative distribution dates for the remainder of 2025:

Celebrating Success and Good Deeds: New Online Recognition Programs!
We are excited to announce the launch of new online programs designed to celebrate the positive contributions within our community:
Straight A's Program: Recognizing and celebrating the academic achievements of young individuals in our community by providing recognition and rewards.
Do-Gooders Program: Highlighting and honoring individuals who go above and beyond to make a positive impact through their actions and kindness through a nomination program.

Clothing Donations: Your gently used clothing can provide comfort and dignity to those in need.
