Waiver and Code of Conduct 

1. Acknowledgment and Agreement

I, (Volunteer Name), desire to volunteer my services to Pretty Heart Inc., a non-profit organization.

​

I acknowledge that I have read, understand, and agree to be bound by this Agreement.

 

2. Volunteer Activities

​

• I understand that I may be participating in various volunteer activities, including but not limited to:

  • Heart to Help Program: Food, clothing, and toiletry distributions.

  • Shower Program assistance.

  • Children's Holiday Gift Drive: Gift delivery.

• I acknowledge that these activities may involve physical exertion, interaction with diverse populations, and potentially challenging environments.

3. Code of Conduct

​

As a Pretty Heart Inc. volunteer, I agree to uphold the following standards of conduct:

​

• Respect and Dignity
  I will treat all individuals, including fellow volunteers, Pretty Heart Inc. staff, and those we serve, with respect, dignity, and compassion.

​

• Equal and Judgment-Free Service
  I will provide assistance to all individuals without discrimination or judgment, regardless of their background, circumstances, or beliefs.
   

• Confidentiality
  I will maintain the confidentiality of any personal information I encounter during my volunteer work.
   

• Professionalism
  I will conduct myself in a professional manner, maintaining a positive attitude and representing Pretty Heart Inc. responsibly.
   

• De-escalation
  I will strive to de-escalate potentially tense or difficult situations using calm and respectful communication. I understand that some individuals we serve may be experiencing hardship or crisis.

• Adherence to Pretty Heart Inc. Standards and Practices
  I will adhere to all Pretty Heart Inc.'s policies, procedures, and guidelines.

​

• Safety First
  I will prioritize my safety and the safety of others, following all safety instructions and protocols.

​

• Appropriate Boundaries
  I will maintain appropriate professional boundaries with the people I serve.

​

• Substance Use
  I will not be under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs while volunteering.

​

• Social Media
  I will refrain from posting any information, photos, or videos on social media that could compromise the privacy or dignity of the people we serve, or that reflects negatively on Pretty Heart Inc.

 

4. Release of Liability and Waiver

​

I understand that there are inherent risks and hazards associated with volunteer activities, including but not limited to:
 

• Physical injury from lifting, carrying, or other physical tasks.

• Exposure to unsanitary conditions or communicable diseases.

• Interactions with individuals who may exhibit unpredictable behavior.

• Travel to and from volunteer locations.

In consideration of being permitted to volunteer for Pretty Heart Inc., I hereby release, waive, and discharge Pretty Heart Inc., its officers, directors, employees, volunteers, and agents from any and all liability, claims, demands, actions, and causes of action (collectively "Claims") arising out of or related to any injury, loss, damage, or expense (including medical expenses and attorney's fees) that I may sustain or incur as a result of my volunteer activities, whether caused by the negligence of Pretty Heart Inc. or otherwise.

I agree that this release and waiver shall bind my heirs, executors, administrators, and assigns.

5. Volunteer Preparedness and Resources

​

I understand that each volunteer opportunity presents unique challenges, and I am responsible for being adequately prepared.

​

I will review any provided materials, attend any required orientations or training, and ask questions to ensure I understand the expectations and safety procedures for my assigned volunteer activity.

​

I acknowledge that Pretty Heart Inc. may provide resources and guidelines, including:

​

• Information about the specific needs of the individuals being served.

• Safety protocols and emergency procedures.

• De-escalation techniques and communication strategies.

• Contact information for Pretty Heart Inc. staff and supervisors.

• Information about the locations of volunteer activities (e.g., addresses, directions, parking).

​

I am encouraged to utilize these resources to enhance my volunteer experience and ensure the well-being of myself and others.

​

6. Termination of Volunteer Service

​

Pretty Heart Inc. reserves the right to terminate my volunteer service at any time, with or without notice, if I fail to adhere to this Agreement or if my conduct is deemed detrimental to the organization or the people we serve.

 

I may terminate my volunteer service at any time by providing written notice to Pretty Heart Inc.

​

7. Emergency Medical Treatment

​

I authorize Pretty Heart Inc. to seek emergency medical treatment for me if I am injured or become ill during my volunteer activities and am unable to do so myself. I agree to be responsible for the payment of any medical expenses incurred as a result of such treatment.

​

8. Governing Law

​

This Agreement shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California.
